School Food Action Initiative

November 2010 Update

“Facilitating food security education in schools”

Goal Areas for 2010-2011 School Year

1. Increase awareness about School Food Action possibilities among educators, school communities, Parent Advisory Councils and the general community in the North Okanagan;

2. Establish an email network of individuals interested in School Food Action;

3. Identify, promote and network School Food Action projects currently underway in North Okanagan schools;

4. Establish a working relationship with BC Agriculture In The Classroom to promote and encourage uptake of BCAITC projects in North Okanagan Schools (ie Spud in Tubs, et al)

5. Conduct workshops for educators in the North Okanagan on:

a. School Food Action Resources and Links

b. Square Foot Gardening

c. Spuds In Tubs

d. Climate Change and School Gardening
